Overview
To meet the demand for further storage at their existing facility we were approached by the project managers to carry out a full structural engineering design service for a twin span high bay warehouse at the existing Yeo Valley Farms site at Highbridge in Somerset.
Brief
- Recommend and design a foundation and floor slab solution for the new building
- Design and detail the steelwork for a large twin span high bay warehouse
- Design and detail the secondary steelwork to include a high level access walkway
- Design and detail the storm and foul water drainage

Solution
- Piled foundations through a thick layer of soft silts and peat
- Reinforced concrete pile caps below steel stanchions
- Flared piles below the heavily loaded floor slab
- Gas protection below the floors
- Twin span steel portal frame with valley beams to reduce the number of internal columns
- Suspended reinforced concrete super flat floors
- Discharge consent for storm water flows
